Behind The Pictures
This Soundslides show is designed to give you a glimpse behind the pictures and let you know what I was thinking, when there was thinking (grin), on my BCS National Championship coverage. I hope you guys enjoy this and I hope you can pick up some tips. You can usually apply lessons you learn in one area of photojournalism across the board and use them on other assignments. So kick back and enjoy. Leave a comment and let me know if this is helpful.

Hi Gary,
What a great slide show and tutorial! I have a couple of questions. Were many of the shots singled out from a burst of several? You really captured the height of the action. You mentioned not having an armband to let you get closer to the trophy presentation. Were there different levels of press credentials for the game? Did you use auto/follow focus or were these focused manually? Thanks for also talking about the lenses and extender used on some of the shots. The sharpness was superb! I liked your comment about tipping the camera lens up and down using burst at the end when you were holding the camera over your head. Any idea how many photographers were on the field? Did they provide a special media briefing to discuss what they expected from the media and how mobile you could be? Again, thank you for taking the time to put together this excellent program. Hopefully you can do it again in the future.
Sincerely,
Lee

yep, more great work. Really enjoyed he slide show..two questions.
1. What ISO did you shoot at?
2. Did you spend most of your in the end zone or walking the sidelines?
3. How many bodies were you using?

Excellent, excellent, excellent work Gary. My wife loves your narrative voice too. She says you could narrate children’s books. Keep that in mind if you need a second career someday.
I know your readers really appreciate that you explain your thinking behind both the shooting and the editing portion of the game coverage. I’d say it was well worth sending you to California.
I also like that you give credit to God for your talent. That’s something I’ve been trying to do more of lately. I’ve been reading Tony Dungy’s new book “Uncommon” and he suggests the same thing – give God the credit for our talents.
We should chat sometime about my track meet playoff game between the Cardinals and the Packers in Phoenix! Whew! I can identify with your comment in the slideshow about moving up and down the sidelines a lot.
Blessings,
Corey
